State Reports on the Cost of Remedial Education

Print Friendly

How much are states and postsecondary systems spending on college remediation? A legitimate – yet tricky – question, and one that the Getting Past Go staff keeps hearing from our network of state folks. In response, we pulled examples from a more comprehensive analysis, State Reporting on Developmental Education: Analysis of Findings, and summarized reports that include remedial education cost information.

Calculating the costs/expenditures of remediation is full of challenges and potential controversy. Arguably, this exercise will become even more complicated as institutions pursue a wider range of delivery – such as self-paced, computer instruction – that do not fit neatly into funding formulas based on semester-long courses.

Check out this GPG summary of reports on remedial education costs, weigh in on the issue and let us know if we overlooked any reports.
